Sunday

4th of July

We went to IF for the 4th this year, and it was nice to be back after missing last year! I missed Dad a lot but it also always seems to help my sadness when I hang out with my awesome family.

We started the day out at the good old parade! Ashlyn was kind of in awe of all of it. She did like running around grabbing candy, but she is surprisingly not aggressive at it!
I sat with Lyssa for most of it (until we were completely dying from the sun beating down on us) and it is always so fun to chat and catch up with my best cousin-friend.

We hung out at my parents' house for lunch and the rest of the afternoon, the kids napped and swam and we had a good time together. We bbq'd of course and then Ashlyn and Addie got to do some sparklers! Except Addie was completely terrified of them so it was really just Ashlyn. 😊

Then we trekked downtown to find a spot to watch the fireworks at the last second. This was my first year being there and not watching them from Grandma's house on the river and it was kind of tough, not going to lie. Just a lot of changes on my mind of all that's suddenly different now. We ended up sitting right in the middle of Memorial drive and had actually a better view of the than we ever did at Grandma's! The only downside was that we didn't have a radio and no one else around us did either, so we could barely hear the music. We'll bring one next time! The fun part was that Ashlyn got to come! She was beyond excited and had a great time. She loved every minute of the fireworks and didn't even get grouchy on the way home.
