Christmas Break

...was crazy! I got sick, for the billionth time this year, literally Collin's first day off. Which I guess was a blessing in disguise, because it would have been much worse if he wasn't around to help out with Ashlyn. But more to come on that sickness thing later.

We really had a great Christmas break, I mean, how can it not be great when Collin was actually home and I got a couple of weeks off work? It all definitely took its toll on Ashlyn, and just these past few days she has finally been getting back into normal sleeping and such, but it was worth it to have some fun. One big thing that happened over the break was that we finally got Ashlyn a new crib! In the blur of craziness when she was born, Collin's brother Morgan offered us their old crib, which was used for all 6 of their kids. We gratefully took it, since at that time we didn't really have the funds or time to get a decent long-term one. And it had been fine, until these past couple months in which Ash is much bigger and stronger, that old-school crib was rockin' and rollin' with her in it. We spent like a month checking out tons of deals on craigslist and shopping around, and I finally found a good one (that I thought was cute as well) on Amazon. It got here 3 days before Christmas!

Ta-da! It is so nice to have one lower to the ground, with all the screws in place, with smaller space between the bars, no poking out hangers for the mattress, and lots of other things. Unfortunately it took Ashlyn like a week to get used to sleeping in it, although there was travel and sickness all mixed in there as well.... bottom line she loves it now! And I do too!

I knew Ashlyn wasn't going to care about Christmas so I didn't really do that much for her.....but her grandparents did! Especially Grandma and Grandpa. They spoiled her with some really fun toys. Nana gave her some super cute clothes and lots of books also. She was lucky! She did have lots of fun opening presents!

Lucy also got spoiled for Christmas. She got some little rawhide gingerbread boys, a peanut-butter candy cane, and some treats! Yes, I wrapped all those things and let her open them. And she loved it!

(sorry so blurry, but I hate my flash!) Trying out the new sit and stand toy from Grandma and Grandpa! (she fell right over right after I took this! )

We headed over to Idaho Falls the 23rd through the 27th. We seriously considered just staying here for Christmas this year (it was our year to go to Utah but Nana went to Ohio for Christmas), but in the end I thought it would be too depressing and a lot of work! We had fun being over there, although my parents' non-baby-proofed house was not so much fun with a busy crawler.

Here we are on Christmas Eve! Don't you love that outfit from my mom.Sooo cute.

Ashlyn got dressed up a lot, as various Christmas characters, as you can see.

The Family Nativity has been officially disbanded until there are grandkids old enough to do it, apparently. But we did still do a "program" and listen to mom read Christmas stories! And Dad did this:

Some other cute pictures:

Ashlyn was actually the latest riser on Christmas morning! It was a weird morning because of church anyway, but we all got up and opened presents beforehand since my parents' church wasn't until 11:30. Ash didn't join us until after 9, and we were almost done! (thank goodness because she just kept eating wrapping paper!) She got this cute little singing puppy from Santa, and it took her about 5 days to warm up to it enough to actually reach out and touch it on her own.

One fun thing about Christmas on Sunday was that it was a good excuse to get her a cute little Christmas dress. (although Collin will testify that I don't need a good excuse to shop for her) Unfortunately, after church she wasn't too big on posing for a picture, so this is what I got. But is that not the cutest little outfit?! I heart.

Other Christmas stuff--- our tree: (no different from last year, although we put it in front of the window this year which I loved!)

I decided to start a tradition of each of our kids getting an ornament their first Christmas. All the kids in my family got one, and growing up I always thought it was cool that one of the ornaments on the tree was "mine." (nevermind the fact that my mom accidentally threw mine away a couple of years ago . . . sniff . . . ). So anyway, I got this cute little Christmas Cupcake for Ashlyn. I didn't bother wrapping it so it just hung on our tree all season anyway! Someday hopefully she will like it.

Collin and I watched a TON of movies over the break. Like, literally every night we watched one. We watched 3 different Hallmark Christmas movies (gotta LOVE those!), all the Christmas movies we own, Super 8, Wolverine, Larry Crowne, and I forget the rest but we were serious movie buffs by the end. And Lucy loves when we do that because it means she gets some lap-snuggling time! I thought this was so freaking funny:

We bundled Ashlyn up and went on some walks (since there is NO snow!) She really doesn't mind it, even though she looks otherwise. One funny thing that happened was on the 29th, I was in the middle of making some sushi (more on that to come), so Collin got Ashlyn and Lucy all ready to go out on a little walk around 4:30, well they left and literally 5 or less minutes later the wind got all crazy and I heard it starting to hail! I was so worried of how far away they had gotten, in a freaking hailstorm! Luckily right then Collin came bounding back into the house with them. They were all soaked but no one was crying (a specific no one), which was good. So, sad for Lucy, never mind that walk!

Our same sushi night there was . . . BSU Wrestling! I wasn't too thrilled to go just because I knew they were going to lose almost every match, which happened. It is way more fun to go when you can cheer and they win! BSU Wrestling matches are an all-evening affair for us, since it is like a reunion with every wrestling person in the valley, and they all have to talk to Collin, and basically it lasts like 5 hours. I don't really mind, in fact usually I bring a book. It was a little different keeping Ashlyn entertained this time. But she was chill, and actually fell asleep on our friend's lap for like 45 minutes. I got to see some old friends I hadn't seen in a while also, so it turned out to be fun.

And I did make some sushi.... the amount in this picture times like 5! I always forget how one batch of rice makes a TON for just 2 of us. I was glad I didn't invite anyone else over for it though, because at the last second I realized I hadn't bought rice (I swore I had, but couldn't find it anywhere!), so I had to dig out some reeaaallly old rice that had to be at least 3 years old. I used it.... and you could taste it. boo. It totally ruined the sushi. For me anyway. Collin will eat anything.

We had big plans for New Years Eve, since it was our last day together before the busy next week started. We wanted to take Ashlyn to the Y to go swimming, and then we had a fun party we were planning to attend. Well of course the one thing I have learned in having a kid is that nothing ever goes as you plan. Ashlyn woke up really grumpy and basically cried all day, which is really weird for her. She is like Miss Happypants. She wouldn't nap, wouldn't eat, wouldn't play, really wouldn't do anything but cry! It was such a bummer because with her acting that way I figured she must be getting sick. And sure enough 2 rough nights later I took her in on the 2nd and she had tonsilitis. But we had to miss the party and we definitely didn't go swimming. We just got a pizza and watched a movie (shocker!). We didn't even stay up until midnight! Who cares. :) Maybe next year!

You should teach us how to make sushi!
