11 Months

Little Missy is now 11 months. That means the next post I do will be her BIRTHDAY! It is crazy. I think back on what I was doing a year ago . . . definitely not thinking I'd be a mom in a month! We are so, so lucky to have Ashlyn in our lives. Here's some fun things about her: She loves TV. I don't let her watch much besides when I am fixing her hair (I pull out all the bribes for that--snacks, TV, all while strapped into her high chair.... and it is still a trick!) The bad thing is that she recently decided that she really likes to watch it from like 3 inches away. This bugs me so bad. I am currently experimenting with different techniques of keeping her away from the TV! I thought her outfit was just charming in this pic as well.

We have decided she has a serious oral fixation. I keep wondering when this "everything goes in my mouth" stage will fade away... but she is still going strong. In fact, it seems like she does it even more than she did a couple of months ago. She LOVES to suck on a wet washcloth. She will crawl around with it in her mouth, then stop and sit there and keep sucking on it. I have tried like 20 times to get a good picture of that but I haven't yet.

The other day I came into the kitchen and she was sucking on the little wooden threshold that separates our kitchen flooring from the dining room. Like, face down, licking the floor. Awesome.

I have been making green smoothies again and she is always so interested in all the stuff I am putting in them. She really wanted this lemon so I let her play (which to her means suck on) it for a minute. She got real mad when I took it away and cut it open. So, I handed her half back, just to see what she'd think when she tasted it. Oh man. She was not happy.

(post lemon face)

Ashlyn is crawling around like crazy. She is really fast. She will kind of just follow me around wherever I go throughout the house. It always seems like she is oblivious to my actions while she's playing, but if I leave the room I will soon hear "thump thump thump..." and she will peek around the corner at me! It's so funny.

She is so smiley and happy, still. She did have a bout of tonsilitis last month, which definitely slowed down the happiness, but in general she is pretty easy-going. She always gets the biggest smile on her face when she sees me or Collin, especially if we are picking her up from someone watching her, or if we have been gone and then come home. Also, when I'm teaching and Collin walks by the piano room holding her, when she gets a glimpse of me she gets all happy and bobs her head around. It's so cute.

She really really likes to stand up. She pulls herself up on whatever and then stands there smiling and laughing and pleased as punch with herself. It's so fun to watch. She especially likes to stand here by her "high chair", and suck on the little straps it has. She also pushes the chair around! Oh goodness.

During the month of December I was so busy with Christmas stuff, my job, and whatever else (not to mention I was doing it mostly single-mom style with Collin being so busy). And with our tree being set up, it was impossible to keep a close eye on her at all times, so I set up the pack n play out in the living room for a little play-pen for her. Luckily she was cool with it in times I really, really needed it. We don't have it set up anymore because now she will scream the second I put her in it. But oh well. It was nice and a tender mercy at that time of need! I love her little head poking out in the picture above.

Notice there aren't many smiling pictures--she is now just really fascinated with the camera. I hope she will catch on to the "say cheese" thing sometime! Because her smile is just the cutest! :)

She still loves bathtime and stories. She can wave and clap, and she is cruising around from couch to chair to ottoman. She really hates getting dressed and really really hates getting her face wiped.

Ashlyn has been spending lots of time at my friend Chandra's house lately. She watches her while I teach. In an ideal world, it would only be for a couple of hours until Collin gets done with practice (or just school), but the past 6 weeks or so it has been much more than that. Collin has had at least one, often two matches during weeknights, then he has been at tournaments on the weekends. So, Ash has been at their house a lot. It's hard for me to have to have her be with someone else that much, but we have been so blessed to have such a wonderful family to watch her! There's no one I'd trust more... and Ashlyn has been in really good hands! Chandra has a little girl 3 months older than Ashlyn but she is about Ash's size and crawls like Ashlyn does. It is soo funny to me to see them together! They are so cute. I will have to get some pictures up here of them together. (darn blogger for not letting me steal other people's pictures anymore!)

We have books all over the place at her level, and she will methodically pull them all out and then try to open them to "read", then chew on them!

Both our "girls" snuggling with Dad!

Ashlyn and Lucy are also absolutely hilarious to watch together. I know I already post tons of stuff about them up here so I won't say much more. But if you remember the Chocolate Chip Bag incident, well we have lots more of those types of things these days. This is one picture I got of them each with their "own" water bottle, I took a really funny video on my phone of them fighting over these, I wish I could load it on here. Lately they fight over this stupid little hippopotamus-head rattle. Seriously, it's like a $1 toy from Walmart that is the hot commodity that Lucy will steal right out of Ashlyn's hands . . . then Ashlyn will chase her (laughing gleefully the whole time) and try to grab it back out of Lucy's mouth . . . if she gets it the fun just continues. It's all fun until Ashlyn gets knocked over. Needless to say it often feels like I have 2 toddlers on my hands, but it's super entertaining. And Ashlyn just LOVES Lucy. She gets a big smile and giggles whenever she sees her. In the morning, Lucy will come into Ashlyn's room with me when I get her up, and she will stick her nose through the bars of the crib to say hi to Ashlyn. Ashlyn loves it. (until she pulls on Lucy's whiskers, then the moment is over!)

Happy 11 months to my sweet baby! I am going to enjoy every day of this last month I have with her as a "baby!"
