All in a Day's Work!

This is what happens when neither Collin nor I have any wrestling tournaments, dance performances, volunteer events, or anything else on a Saturday. We WORK! We got so much done around our house, it was amazing to us. (all you pro-home owners can laugh all you want--we're proud of ourselves! I took Sewing 101! Not all of it was new to me of course, but I feel lots better about what I know about the details of sewing. Plus I made this beautiful pillowcase, I know you're all jealous.

Mexican Pizza!! yum yum! Let me know if you want the recipe... it is fab and pretty healthy!

Before: empty pots and a bag of potting soil . . .

After: A baby tomato plant and 2 pots with herb seeds! Let's hope something grows!!

Before: The garden. Collin worked so hard at digging up all the dead weeds, removing rocks, and tilling the soil. We had to add 2 bags of garden soil, but hopefully that means it will actually be good soil.

Planting away! It's so fun when it's your own garden! Not so fun when it was my parents' garden all those years.

After: Our beautiful garden... well the beginning anyway. Tomatoes, red peppers, jalapenos, zucchini, romaine, chives, basil, cilantro, and parsley. woot woot! Now the true test will come to see if anything ever actually grows from this. (we are total first-timers!)

On to the next project . . .
Before: Over the past couple of weeks we have been re-organizing pretty much our whole house to make room to put our food storage inside. What a freaking pain!! It has been in the garage all winter but we decided to move it in for convenience and also to hopefully prevent it from getting damaged from hot temperatures. SO... this was the before picture of everything emptied out of what is now our food storage closet.

After: Ta-da! I cleaned this whole room up myself. Collin took care of organizing all the stuff out in the garage. It only took us like... 4 hours!

Collin is So proud of the newly-organized garage. We spent a lot of time deciding what we would need most accessible and what we didn't care was up on high shelves that are hard to reach. Collin even swept and sprayed out all the corners of the garage... whew!

I also finished this shelf I found on sale at Roberts last month--I sanded and painted it and Collin hung it up. Pretty cute, eh?

And my latest masterpiece, a dinner planner I made! It's a magnet board under the cute stuff, so I just wrote all the things we have for dinner frequently (there were like 50) on little cards then laminated them, plus the calendar is dry-erase for whatever else I need to scribble on it. This is the most organized I ever plan on getting in terms of planning meals, because many of you may know that I have a great underlying repulsion of ever planning out exactly what every single meal will be, when you will have it, and even planning all the side dishes. Don't know where avoidance of that system ever came from . . .

So once we got all this done, which was about 9:00 Saturday night, how do you think we rewarded ourselves? Free burritos from Qdoba and a few episodes of Lost! ahh, that is the life!!
Also, thanks to everyone who was able to come have some fun with us at Applebee's! Amber, Chandra, Abby and I were able to catch lunch together, which I always love girl time. And then Allison and Jason were fab to have dinner with! You guys are great! :)

This all looks GREAT! You should be proud. I like the magnetic meal idea. Jim and I took on some ambitious gardening projects in our newer married years and had fun with it and even some success. Happy eating from your garden!

Man, you guys had quite the busy day Saturday! Your garden looks great! I wish I had as many cute ideas as you do around your house. I might need some ideas (once our back yard is done of course). :)

Wow. I am super impressed. That is a lot of things to do in one day. Seriously.
And I also would really like the mexican pizza recipe and I think at the 4th of July we should exchange a lot of recipes with the cousins. I'm always up for something new and easy. What do you think?
