Back in January I started on an organizational kick, because really we have lived here 4 years now and I have not once really un-junked anything besides the piano room and Ashlyn's room right before we got her. That is embarrassing....but true! I guess it's partially because, in the past we had never lived anywhere more than 2 years, so really when everything got cluttered it just meant time to clean it out because we were moving. So, it's new to me to have to go through my house and really clean and organize stuff! Don't judge! It is still a work in progress, but so far I have gone through both our bathrooms, our closet, our night stands, 1 bookshelf, my "craft and other crap corner" currently residing in our bedroom, our kitchen cabinets, Ashlyn's closet, and the piano room closet. (And I successfully nagged Collin enough to clean out the garage!) I guess that gives you an idea of what kind of packrats/ clutter-magnets we are. Nice. The worst part is that I'm really dreading the ones I've put off: the coat closet and the laundry closet. Oh how they haunt my nightmares.
Aaanyways.... so, this was one thing that has bugged me since day one we moved in here, I had just never taken the time/had the money to get a better way to store this area. It's our "linen closet", which is really just an open space behind the door in our guest bathroom. I hate how everyone who uses that bathroom can see all our ghetto towels/sheets/whatever other random crap I store there, all folded but still looking so ugly. Well (warning: cliche coming right up--) thanks to Pinterest, I found a tutorial on turning diaper boxes into canvas fabric-lined storage bins. Wahoo! If there's one thing we have an abundance of, it's diaper boxes! ha ha. Unfortunately, between saving enough boxes to make it a worthwhile project, actually getting the canvas and fabric, taking the time to sew (which I only did for one.... I am just not cut out to rock the sewing machine. Sorry Grandma.), and then actually organizing the stuff into them... it spanned like 3 months. I know, I am ridiculous. BUT, it is done! And if I do say so myself, it makes a pretty great before/after picture!!

And then a couple of weekends ago I found myself home alone (really, no one but me and the dog!) for 2 nights, so what's a girl to do but go shopping.... for curtains?? We still had a gift card to Bed Bath & Beyond from Christmas and I really had never had enough free time without my kid to get over there to check curtains out, because we were in desparate need, especially in our dining room (you know what I'm talking about--those greenish/gold wonders that have been hanging there since probably long before we moved in!!). Anyway, one thing led to another, and after getting some super cute new curtains for the dining room I couldn't resist checking out Ross to see if they had a cute rod/cheap curtains for our bedroom. Because another dream of mine has been to actually have curtains in this room, They did! Thanks to Ross. $20 later I had full new draperies for 2 windows! woot! It took another couple of weeks for us to get them up, but it looks good I think! (no pic of the dining room ones, sorry. Just come over and see them!)

1.That storage shelf in the bathroom looks SO MUCH BETTER! Those boxes turned out way cute!
2. We just got curtains for our bedroom too! The main reason being I want it to stay dark for as long as possible in our room so that the dang natural light won't wake me up earlier than I want to get up!
3. I laughed so hard during your post about Collin's hair cut, even though I had already heard the story.
WOW! The diaper boxes are really cute and a great idea. It does look totally different. The curtains in the bedroom are really nice looking. I want to see the ones in the dining room! That's a lot of places to de-clutter. Good job! I'm kind of dreading going through our stuff since we've lived here, but one good thing is that there's really not much room to expand. So hopefully, it won't be too bad when we move.
