Camping #1

Due to Collin's "Camp Tour" (5 camps I believe) this summer and the fact that I can basically make up my own schedule, we actually had to plan our summer! That was a bummer for us because we have never had to do that. But we always run out of time to go camping as much as we want, so this summer we decided to plan when the trips would be FIRST, so we wouldn't run out of time. Camping #1 was last week! It was a short trip, one night but so fun. We were lucky and had the only sunny day of the week. If you know me you know I am a marshmallow fiend! Here I am showing my true colors.
We were up at a camp ground called Mountainview, it's a little outside of Lowman. We've actually camped here once before, and the weather had been so crappy we had the place almost to ourselves, it was great.

The best thing about camping in this area is easy access to Kirkham Hotsprings. If you haven't been there you should totally check it out sometime! It is one of our favorites. We lucked out big time both times we went, and ended up having the place almost to ourselves. We hot-springed Thursday night right before we went to bed, which was sooo relaxing. Then again Friday afternoon before we headed back home.

We found a trail to do a mini-hike on, and found a sweet place to eat lunch on the banks of the river. The Payette is so fast and crazy at this time of year.

Kirkham apparently had a huge fire 20 years ago, and for some reason those burnt out areas of forest are always fascinating to me. The mountains look crazy with all their little burnt poles sticking up pathetically, and the ground is also littered with sad looking dead trees. It's amazing to see how the forest totally re-grows itself over time.
Back at Kirkham for the second time around
It was a short but fun trip! Can't wait for our next one!

So fun! I wish we could join the camping adventures- we have to drive a ways to get to places that are decent. I miss Idaho! I hope you have lots more fun camping trips this summer!

That looks like so much fun. It makes me want to go camping, but not with the kids. Just kidding - that would be fun too but I can just see it now - "Stay away from the fire! Stay away from the water! Don't pet the skunk! Don't poke your sister with the hot dog stick!" Ummm, maybe we'll wait a few years.
