Ashlyn's Five!

Our sweet, gorgeous Ashlyn girl turned 5 this month! I can't believe how fast time goes by sometimes! But also, I feel like her turning 5.... she seems 5 now! If that makes sense! She is acting like a much bigger kid and really seemed ready for this birthday! Also, she was SO excited for her birthday this year. She would tell everyone we saw, anywhere, that her birthday was coming up and she'd be turning 5.
Ashlyn has done a great job at teaching Elan to do this sour face! I usually only see her do this face when I ask her to do something that she doesn't want to do, or when I say "no" to something she asks to do.

And THIS is the face I get when I ask her to say cheese! I think this particular picture I had told her to show me how she felt about Grandma and Nana coming to visit later that day.

Here she is with her little dog she decided to name "Uchtdorf." This girl and her baby/animal names... they are so funny. She decides on a name and really doesn't change it, she remembers. Even though they are usually the weirdest names I've ever heard! I wish I could remember some of them as I type this, but she's in bed and I can never remember the names. This little dog was given to her by Uncle Sam and Aunt Megan's family, and she really never parted with it for about 2 weeks!

Good grief! Sam got this awesome hat for Grace while they were visiting IF this month, and sneakily bought a 2nd one to give to Ashlyn for her birthday. You can't tell in the picture but they get even cooler--when you squeeze those little puff balls, the wings flap! Nice.

We had Nana and Grandma here to visit the weekend right before Ashlyn's birthday. We went out for Mexican and she got an awesome little churro cake! She was all business when they sang to her and she blew out her candles. So sweet.

Ashlyn is a Target lover. She regularly asks when we are going if we haven't been for a couple of weeks. It was kind of our hangout all winter when we needed to get out of the house. (much to my budget's chagrin, ha ha!) Ashlyn usually gets a "slushy" if she's a good helper in the store, and that is really why she loves it! But she really likes to look at things too, especially in the girls' clothes section. It's fun to have a little shopping friend!

She was over the moon to have both grandmas visiting! They spoiled her SO much for her birthday. She, Collin, and Nana all went to Kung Fu Panda 3 together, then we went out to Mexican for dinner. The next day we had a little party for Elan, but Ashlyn got to open her grandma birthday presents too. It was so much fun!

Alex came over for the evening and spent the night one of those nights too. He had some company while he was playing the piano for a while.

When Ashlyn got up on her actual birthday, there was a big surprise waiting for her! A new bike! Luckily it's what she wanted for her birthday! She rode laps around inside most of the morning.

The evening of Ashlyn's birthday, we had a few of her little friends and their families over for donuts and a pinata. Ashlyn requested a donut cake, and also picked out her pinata, which was a fire truck. She also picked out the plates and napkins for the donuts--Paw Patrol. This girl definitely has her own sense of style! We had the Musgraves, Sheffields, Binghams, and Wrights over to play. About 20 kids! Plus parents. It was a lot of fun. She loved every minute of it.

Our sweet Ashlyn is such a good girl. It was so fun for her to have her special day to be celebrated. She really has a gift for making others feel loved. She has always been good at making people happy and showing her love for them. We are so lucky to have her in our family! She lost her first tooth just a few days after her birthday! And the big tooth was already growing in behind it! She sure seems like she's growing up fast. She is a wonderful big sister to Elan. She plays with him and includes him (most of the time) in what she's doing if she can. And she is my big helper with him, too. A couple of cute things she does right now are that she loves to get dressed all by herself and "surprise" us with it! Either in the morning or getting into pj's at night. She also is like a little sponge, learning so much about everything right now, and she loves to share it with anyone and everyone. She starts most of her sentences with "Did you notice" . . . and then tells something about whatever--her lost tooth, the sunset, how old she is, that she wants to go to Disneyland when she's 8, that the moon is in outer space, you name it! Love it! She LOVES preschool and loves her teacher. She is so eager to please, and the first thing she begs me to do when she gets home from preschool is her homework! I'm usually the one giving her excuses to wait and do it later! I hope it stays that way!
She is in a little gymnastics class and she of course loves her teacher for that, and loves the fun it is. She's not one to have super-focus and definitely doesn't have a lot of perfectionist tendencies, which is fun to watch. She likes to do things that are FUN. And to laugh and have fun with other kids. That's what she'd tell you!
She has also been doing piano lessons with me for about a year now. It is a fun little time that she is always asking about... if it's her turn for piano yet. She has a good musical knack and LOVES to dance to music too. It's so fun that we can actually have little conversations about things when we're driving in the car and eating our meals. She is a chatter box a lot of the time, asking me questions and telling me all kinds of things. She has learned a few knock-knock jokes and thinks it's hilarious to tell those to people. She is still a big TV fan and is like a zombie when I let her watch. Her absolute #1 most frequently watched show for the past 8 months or more has been Little Einsteins. She has really learned SO much about classical music and art from it! I love it! I think she has a little crush on one of the characters--Leo. She talks about him often. :) What a cutie.

We love our sweet Ashlyn! Happy birthday big 5 year old!
