Elan's One!

Our sweet Elan boy turned one! Time sure flies!

He learned this nice crusty look from Ashlyn. For a few weeks he would do it every time something didn't perfectly go his way. So funny!

Hey cutie!

We celebrated Elan's birthday a day early. We had Grandma Amy and Nana here, and Uncle Alex as well! We all had dinner together, then Elan and Ashlyn got to open their presents from their grandmas, and Elan got to open his presents from Mom and Dad too. He was so done with presents before he opened them all..... too many! Jeeze! :) He was pretty good at tearing the wrapping paper off himself, although that novelty wore off pretty quickly!

Elan was ALL ABOUT the cake! He snuck a little finger-full of frosting before we even finished singing Happy Birthday to him. He looked up at us like, "Are you seriously going to let me have this whole piece?" and he dug right in! He ate about half of that piece! I made him the same rainbow cake Ashlyn had for her first birthday. He definitely approved.
Oh the messy baby!

Messy and HAPPY!

Playing cars with Dad! He got this cute little car ramp from Uncle Sam and Aunt Megan's family for his birthday. He figured out pretty quickly how to make the cars race down the ramp. Must be a boy thing!

He LOVES to ride in the hiking backpack! He is still our quiet, observant little guy any time he's somewhere new or somewhere with a lot to look at.

Pre-birthday walk! He's cool with sitting in the jogger, as long as it's moving!

Things Elan does at age 1:
*LOVES to dance and bop to music! If he hears something even just like, clapping, he'll start bopping along! Love it!!

*Thinks it's hilarious to shake his head when we say "no no no!" --often when we're trying to feed him in his high chair

*Waves hi, bye, and night-night

*LOVES to read stories! I often find him sitting in his room or in the living room where we keep books, just looking through them. We usually put a couple of books in his crib, and he will usually be sitting in there looking at them when I go get him up in the morning. Be still my heart! He isn't super patient with story time when someone else is reading to him.... he just wants to turn the pages as fast as he can. Funny guy.

*LOVES bath time and swimming!!!

*He's a growler--growls when he's crawling around and playing with things!

*If a door (like the pantry, Ashlyn's room, the bathroom, etc.) gets closed when he wants to go through it, he flings himself onto the floor in a full-on little baby tantrum. It lasts about 30 seconds and it's so funny.

*He loves to look around at things. When I'm holding him, he will point at everything and say "tsst" ("what is it") and I'll tell him what things are, and he thinks that is such a fun game. He really turns into a quiet little guy, just looking around, when we go somewhere new or somewhere with a lot going on. He usually warms up and wants to get in on the action, but it's cute to see him just being observant, it reminds me of what he was like from day 1 as a brand new baby.

*He totally has some stranger danger! When he sees someone he doesn't recognize in our house or if we're visiting someone else, he'll tuck his head into my neck for like 5 minutes until he gets comfortable.

*He loves to be outside--I wonder if he will be outdoorsy when he's older? :) He literally throws a fit when Lucy or anyone gets to go out the back door and he can't come along. He loves rides in the stroller and even just going out to get the mail with me. He loves to stand and look out the big windows in the back of our house.

We LOVE this little guy! Can't believe it's already been a year since he was born! He brings so much joy to our lives and we love him tons. He keeps us busy with all the things he is learning to get into, and he seems like he's going to start walking any day now. What a blessing he is to our family!
