Camping

What a boring post title. But it's true.... we went camping. I wasn't sure about going camping with a 6-month old, but when my dad mentioned that he was going to stake out a prime spot at Little Redfish, we couldn't resist! Plus I figured it would be better to go with the big crew (which essentially mean less work, thanks to Mom and Dad!) than roughing it by ourselves. Ashlyn was a super camper! She is generally pretty chipper no matter what we do or where we drag her along, and camping was no exception! She was really easy going and even pretty much stayed in her nap and nighttime routine. Thank goodness!

We brought Lucy! For those of you who know.... Lucy had previously been banned from all family activities--including camping! We weren't trying to be deliberately obnoxious, but having to pay to have her boarded for 4 days just didn't seem like a good idea, and it didn't work out to have to nag some friends to watch her either. I figured we could hide her from my parents..... until right when we pulled up my mom came walking right over to the car! So much for that plan. They were courteous though, and I actually think Lucy provided some good entertainment. She loved to stand up on these tall rocks and stumps and kept a good lookout for the camp! .... And she got fed plenty of scraps!!

We did have some rain... it actually poured for an entire afternoon/evening. My personal favorite was seeing Andrea walking around in that awesome green poncho you see there on the left!

I thought this was hilarious! I don't even know what it is that Ashlyn is trying to shove in her mouth... but it was a great action shot of what she does with everything she gets her hands on these days! I promise it's not a marshmallow.

I really think Lucy thought she was like, part wolf or something. She really liked to do this pose.

We had the walker up there, which was nice for Ashlyn to have a little place to play that didn't involve someone holding her. I mainly wanted to put in this pic to show off the cute little baby crocs she's wearing!

Used the backpack a few times... Mom, Ashlyn and I were left behind as everyone else went up to the infamous bumpy road to Seafoam Lake, so we took a trip up to Big Redfish and hiked around then had some delish fries and coke for lunch. (and randomly I ran into a friend from the old singles ward! Of all the places!)

Continuing to attempt solid foods.... She actually ate rice cereal and bananas like a champ on the trip! I guess camping makes even little ones more hungry. I just love the Colonel Sanders face.

For nighttime arrangements, we did sleep in our brand new tent (which I forgot to take a picture of!), in our brand new sleeping bags on our brand new air mattress. Yes the time had come to replace the bags and mattress since they were all broken beyond repair. The tent was a Christmas present from my parents last year. It was SO awesome to have a bigger tent! We did our time in that little one we had for so long! Anyway, I didn't really want to have to have Ashlyn sleep in our sleeping bag with us if I could help it, just because I knew no one would get any sleep. So I borrowed my friend Lindy's little Moses basket and Ashlyn seriously slept like a champ in that thing! She was bundled up beyond all reason and under like 6 blankets.... I think she was warmer than I was for sure. but she looked so funny in her jammies, hoodie, and wearable blanket I had to take a picture. I wish I had gotten one of her in the basket. Oh well. It really was awesome. Thanks Lindy!

I asked Collin to go take a picture of the lake and this is what I got. Go figure. We really were right on the lake though, which is nice. And especially nice about Little Redfish is that it's too small for motorized boats so it's always quiet. Not saying I don't wish we were the boating type of family though. :)

Girlies around the campfire.... It looks like everyone is frowning in this picture but I can't remember why. ?? Probably freezing cold.

Well anyway, that wraps up the report on our camping trip. It was fun and also super nice to get back home and shower after 3 days without one. Thanks for inviting us, family.
