Sadly, our little betta fish Half Nelson (we called him Nelson for short) passed away this weekend. We went to Idaho Falls for the weekend and when we returned he was floating lifelessly, staring into space. It was actually really creepy looking and I made Collin deal with it. We had a feeling the end was coming--he had been acting a little strange lately.
For those of you who have spent some time with Nelson, either at our house or watching him while we were on vacation, you will know he will be greatly missed. He was great company to us, especially to me--swimming around so excitedly as I spent hours practicing the piano for my senior recital last spring. ;) Anyways, we will miss him so much, but we know he is in a better place--where they feed him and change his water regularly, and don't turn the heat down to 50* when they leave town.
Here is Nelson's watery grave. . . until we flushed him.
Here is Collin wishing Nelson a fond farewell as he got flushed.
I thought I would share a few of the special moments Nelson shared with us:
Here he is enjoying some homemade sushi with me . . .
Celebrating Collin's 28th birthday. . . (above)
And watching us and our friends carve our pumpkins at our pumpkin party in 2007. (below)

That is so sad that Nelson died. He was a good fish, I will miss him very much. He was there when I first made sushi. May he rest in fish heaven peace.
We are so sad to hear that you lost Nelson! He was such a great fish!
Sounds like he will be greatly missed! I wish I could have known him :(
So sad. Our condolences to you both.
Sorry to hear about Nelson. I love the shots of him with you guys. We have a beta as well, "Freddy" and I'm hoping he'll stick around for a while for our boys' sake!
