CCFA Support Group

Well, I finally did it. Let me begin with this-- if you've known me for a while you probably know that at the age of 15 I was diagnosed with Ulcerative Colitis, an incurable chronic digestive disease that affects the colon. A year later, after numerous hospital stays and complications including the infamous "blood clot" episode in which I nearly lost my leg, I had major surgery to remove my entire colon. Anyways. . . I have since become very involed in the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America. I promised myself 2 years ago up at Camp Oasis in Lake Elizabeth, CA that I would start up a support group here in Boise for CCFA, because Idaho is basically completely un-included in any CCFA events. AND . . . Tuesday we had our first meeting! I was so excited to see that over 20 people came, and at least 16 were patients. I have been progressively working on this project since I graduated last spring and I was SO excited to see that there is definitely a need for an organization like this here in Boise. I'm glad that all my work in training and locating facilities and advertising and organizing so far paid off for at least one meeting!
And as for my fun adventure right before the meeting (i.e., locking myself out of my house without my car keys), that is another story. All I need to say about that is THANK YOU DAKIN! :)
