I was so excited for Thanksgiving break! Collin and I had not been seeing much of each other due to crazy schedules (especially him), so I was looking forward to having a whole week of a break for both of us. We started off Friday night by going to Applebee's to watch the BSU game, then to a movie. It was a fun night! Until. . . . I ended up with a small bowel obstruction! Are you kidding me?!?! Wasn't I just on here, talking about how thankful I am that I've been so healthy lately? Of course. So anyway, I was up in extreme pain all night, and along with the pain was the wondering of if it would get bad enough that I would have to go into the ER---which would mean nose tubes, possibly surgery..... it is not a good path to go down! But Collin gave me a blessing and thankfully around 2:30am I started feeling better. THANK GOODNESS. So I was up early the next morning to go work at the State MTNA Competition at BSU. But sadly.... things didn't get that much better! The initial blockage had passed but I was still having considerable pain and still felt like something was wrong. So, of course I knew better than to actually eat anything, which led to me actually being on clear liquids for the next 4 days! BOO! Nothing says Thanksgiving break like not being able to eat anything but jello, broth, and tea! Just kidding, obviously. But that really was all I could have. Not to mention I was still not feeling totally well. So, after tons of phone calls to and from the Dr's office, a trip to St. Luke's for X-rays, and an office visit with the dr, I was feeling better by Tuesday. They think I had an obstruction that only partially resolved Friday night, so it was still there through Monday. So even though it really sucked to not eat, I did the right thing because any food would have made it way worse! I was thankful to finally be feeling better, but it was kind of a bummer way to start our break. I feel really lucky it wasn't worse, but I also realized through all that that being able to eat food really does make me happy! For the rest of the week I was only allowed to eat soft stuff, un-fibrous stuff, so that was interesting since I'm used to eating the opposite. But it was better than no food!
Part 2: Trying to freaking get there
So, along with the whole illness/no eating/worried about what was wrong thing, the WEATHER was not cooperating at all! As anyone who tried to travel that week knows! It was insane! First it snowed a lot here, which is weird in the first place. Then it got ridiculously cold, like below zero. Which I don't even remember happening here before. Even if I had been feeling okay, we wouldn't have been able to travel to Utah Tuesday like we had planned because the freaking roads were closed! So, we ended up staying in Boise until Wednesday, partially so I could go to a dr. appointment and partially so the roads would be open for driving!
I took this picture on our way to Utah, we thought it was funny because we didn't even know our car thermometer could do negatives. Huh, the things you learn driving 40 mph down a snowy road.
This is what the road looked like until we got to Tremonton. I am the biggest chicken when it comes to any sort of dangerous driving, probably due to the fact that all the wrecks I have been in have been due to icy roads. So I closed my eyes a lot of the time we were driving! Collin is good at handling them, though. We really did have to go 40 for a few hours, but we never slid off, which I consider a success! It took us almost 8 hours to make the usually 5-hour drive to Collin's parent's house. But who cares, we made it!
It was 4 degrees when the race started! nice! As you can guess, I was very sad I was sitting in my car with the heater on full blast as the race went on. :)
Tyler earned my race number a nice 14th place in the Womens 25-29 division! Thanks!
So Thanksgiving at my in-laws is seriously insane. Darlyne always has sooooo much more food than any group of people could possibly eat. She's an amazing cook! That is part of why we have started the tradition of running every Thanksgiving!!
Just sitting down to eat--we had Morgan and Lana's family, Tyler, and Beau and Donna all there also. It was great to see everyone and get together.
Part 3: Thanksgiving!
So, I had signed Collin and myself up for a 4-miler in Orem Thanksgiving morning, since our tradition has been to go running Thanksgiving morning for the past few years, I thought we might as well have some real motivation and get a shirt out of it! Well, due to my ridiculous eating and health conditions of the week prior, of course I changed my plans of running. Tyler was planning to come anyway, though, so we just used my race number!

Some yummy food shots...

Darlyne always refuses to let us bring anything.... so I always bring these. They did get chowed down (especially by the kids, of course), so I felt like I contributed! I also made some pumpkin/cream cheese frosting sandwich cookies. mmm.
We always have fun playing games with the kids too. Collin ran Bingo.... and we always have like 50 games of Nerts (how do you spell that?) and we played Yahtzee this year too! Not to mention watching Kung Fu Panda and some other movies. It was great to have a day to be together and relax and have fun! Even with the fact that I could only eat mashed potatoes and jello salad!
And of course at any Robertson Boy get together you will have this....
and this .... (notice Lucy wishing she could get in on the action)
And this! We keep telling Jim and Darlyne they just need to put a wrestling mat out in their garage, since this always happens. It is pretty funny. Glad the boys have a good time when they get together.
It was a great trip! We had to leave the next day, sadly, so we were there for less than 48 hours! But it was better than staying in Boise, for million times sure. Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

Oh Tonya, you poor thing. I must say that you sound amazingly positive even though this is something you deal with all of the time. You do have many blessings for sure, but you have lots of challenges too. And, I for one, think you are amazing!
