Well you know how the environment is slowly dying and we're using up all our natural resources and the globe is warming and gas prices are sky-rocketing and produce is coming up in short supply and also growing in price . . .
Don't worry I'm not a firm believer in really ANY of that, except that gas really IS getting SO expensive, which obviously has a toll on pretty much everything else.
Well Collin and I both think the "go green" thing is mainly a big media circus and cheap way for businesses to make more money simply by saying things "help the environment." (don't worry Dad, we're not turning into ENVIRONMENTALIST WACKOS.) But because of the price-crunch in pretty much everything lately, we have been trying to be a little more eco-friendly. Here's a few of the things we've tried to do:
We've been buying glass-bottled milk from a local dairy.
(I found a place (Boise Co-Op) where you can buy glass-bottled milk, and if you return the bottles you get a full refund and it only costs 50 cents a half-gallon to get new ones.)
Instead of wasting plastic bags for groceries, I've been using these re-usable grocery bags. Plus, Winco gives you 6 cents per bag every time you use them.
We started recycling! (I know, pathetic that we weren't before... don't tell anyone.) This is our make-shift recycling plant, in no other place than our downstairs bathroom's shower. We really don't have a single other place to put recycling bins.
I have been buying our produce at a local farmer's market instead of at the big corporate chains. I hope this helps because most of the produce is local, and I am all for supporting local farms, as well as the Little Guy!
I've been washing more of our clothes on cold-cold to save hot water. It seems to be about the same effectiveness as hot water, but it doesn't shrink anything! (I still do certain things on warm-cold so I'm not completely converted to this one.)
Ah-ha! Our biggest effort to stop spending so much on gas! We have become bike maniacs! I have been riding my bike to work and to the Rec. center I work out at almost every time I go for the past 2 months. (Rainy/windy days excluded, I AM still a city girl) I've also been riding my bike to do errands that don't require a car, sometimes all the way to downtown Boise (which is about 12 miles round trip). We've gone out on weekend nights on our bikes a few times too, as well as walking or riding bikes to church.
I started keeping track in the middle of April of how many miles I saved on my car by riding my bike . . . and the grand total for April and May combined was over 60 MILES! Hey, that is 2 gallons of gas, or as I like to call it, 8 stinkin' bucks.

Nice work! I definitely need to try some of those ideas. Too bad I didn't know about the milk at the co-op while we were there.
So Shane and I are in the same boat...we always talk about how the media has taken the whole green thing out of control. But we could do better...we are some of those lamos who have yet to recycle.:( I don't know why we haven't just done it...out of laziness I guess. Anyway, you've inspired me to do better. I told Shane that we need to do better and we are trying to start recycling. Thanks for the inspiration!!! Nice work!
I'm so glad you wrote on my blog! Wow it's been soooo long! It looks like you're doing great. So, you're in Boise, right? Do you plan on settling there? I'm glad to hear that you're still dancing. I admit, my dancing days pretty much stopped after high school. Pretty sad. You and your husband are so cute. We'll have to keep in touch!
Way to save the Earth! Chad and I like to only change Kate's diaper once a day in order to save the planet.
Just kidding! We maybe change it twice a day...
Wow.. GO GREEN! I guess I am just way to lazy when it comes to things like this! That is fun to track your miles on your bike! I love the clogging pictures and Acapella is awesome to watch. You should post a video next time! It is amazing!
