Pictures are from about 17-18 months but I wrote this when he's 21 months)
Oh our sweet Elan boy! What would we do without him! He sure brings a lot of joy to our family. He is generally very happy and easy going. He loves to tag along with his big sister and do anything and everything she does. He is talking up a storm these days! His vocabulary is seriously exploding. He is such a little copy cat and can imitate words we say, a lot. It's kind of hilarious. I said "gross" while I was changing a poopy diaper and the whole rest of the time I was changing it he kept chanting "gross! gross! gross!" but in that little baby boy voice that is just adorable. Ashlyn takes pride in teaching him new words, like today on the way to church she was pointing out things we drove by, and he caught on to the word "bush" and kept saying it the whole way there. She thought it was super hilarious. It was really cute.
Elan LOVES cars, trucks, trains, and buses! They are by far his favorite things to play with. He will just drive a little hot wheels car along the counter top around the island in the kitchen, over and over. Or drive his cars along the couch, or the floor..... he loves it. His favorite books are the ones with pictures of cars and other motorized vehicles! We recently switched his car seat to forward facing (don't tell the pediatrician--but I was SO done wrangling him into his rear-facing one!) and now that he can see so much more out the windows, whenever we drive he is constantly telling me all the things he sees. "Car! ... Car! ... Truck! .... BUS!" (Buses are the most rare and therefore the most exciting!) He likes for me to validate what he's telling me so I'm constantly saying "yes, there's a car! Yes, there's a truck!" I'm glad he cares that I'm listening I guess! They are fun little conversations. :)
Elan can also throw a mean little fit! When he is hungry or just grouchy about something he is pretty good at being dramatic and flipping out. He likes to completely throw himself onto the ground and cry when he doesn't get his way. And at meal times.... he is pretty pro at swiping his hands angrily across his tray and sending everything on it flying. Since he's a pretty picky eater that happens a lot! (grr) He can cry big tears and be so sad and make me feel like I'm such a mean mom when I.... don't let him play with a glue stick or something similar. It's rough being a one year old!
Luckily he can be distracted from being mad pretty easily. Silly songs and making funny faces and noises really cheer him up, and he's pretty quick to laugh even if he was freaking out a minute before.
We sure love our sweet Elan boy! What a blessing he is in our family!
